This concept was introduced to me when I was reading “Think and grow rich” by Napoleon hill. For all I know a mastermind meant some genius or incredibly smart individual, However, according to Hill a mastermind  is : ” A Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.” In other words,  it is a group of people gathering their thoughts and energy for the same interest.   When interviewing each of the most successful people in America , the author of the million dollar book, noticed that what the public don’t know about the amazing achievement and inventions ever produced by these men came as a result of applying the mastermind principle. If you think about it,  it simply comes back to basic mathematics, more brains functioning equals more brain power, infinite intelligence and more productivity.

Doesn’t it happen to you sometimes to wonder how did we this far in technology, and how clueless we are about almost each and every device we use these days.  Ok maybe not all people think about like that , but I believe if you got this far into reading this then you are not most people, you are in fact  also a questioner of the world.
So let me  clear it for you my friend with a few examples, the reason why you don’t understand how any of the today’s technology works is  because you are thinking with an individual mindset, and that’s not how any of the major inventions were developed, thus the  false equations, your brain power can’t compete with one of a mastermind, unless you’re some genius I guess.

The Wright Brothers

Let’s take the first successful plane for example, it was built by the Wright brothers and this perfectly demonstrates the harmony Hill was talking about.

Microsoft

It wasn’t one person who founded Microsoft  either, it took two young computer enthusiasts, Bill Gates and Paul Allen to start something like that.

The Inklings

I was once watching The hobbit and I couldn’t help myself  from thinking  about how incredible the story was and that it must take a genius to produce such a movie. However, after doing a little research about mastermind groups I came across the “Inklings”  this group included great poets and writers such as CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Charles Williams, and Owen Barfield. These men would gather in oxford england and read aloud  from their most recent writings which gave us The Screwtape Letters , The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia and of course The Lord of the Rings.

“The Inklings”. They often went to a pub and smoked their pipes, drank and had good food, almost like hobbits.

Eminem and Dr.Dre

This key to extraordinary success can be applied to any field really, Eminem was asked in an interview about his relationship with Drdre, to which he answered that there was no boss between them, they worked together and that’s how they created a whole new evolution of rap music.

Friends

I am a huge fan of the show “Friends”  and I remember watching one extended behind the scenes video that I loved so much, However looking at it now makes much more sense as to why the sitcom was and probably  still is the funniest one ever made,  not only the cast use to huddle before each day of shooting, but I was amazed by how  the writers sit at this table and discuss their scripts.

The Vagabonds

To save the best for last, I want to share this excerpt  from think and grow rich shining light on Henry Ford. “It is a well-known fact that Henry Ford began his business career under the handicap of poverty, illiteracy, and ignorance. It is an equally well-known fact that, within the inconceivably short period of ten years, Mr. Ford mastered these three handicaps, and that within twenty-five years he made himself one of the richest men in America. Connect with this fact, the additional knowledge that Mr. Ford’s most rapid strides became noticeable, from the time he became a personal friend of Thomas A. Edison, and you will begin to understand what the influence of one mind upon another can accomplish. Go a step farther, and consider the fact that Mr. Ford’s most outstanding achievements began from the time that he formed the acquaintances of Harvey Firestone, John Burroughs, and Luther Burbank, (each a man of great brain capacity), and you will have further evidence that POWER may be produced through friendly alliance of minds.”

There is countless of similar examples out there, but what is strange is that most people don’t make the conscious decision of creating a mastermind or joining one. Perhaps  it is not for everyone,  perhaps it is for people who are serious about having an extraordinary future, achieving things they couldn’t even dreamed of.

In life this is what you should always be seeking, people who you can make a mastermind with, to meet twice or more per week discussing plans to achieve a higher common goal. If you can’t think of any friends you already have, then you might have to approach someone who you think you want to  be like or you admire, there is no problem with that as long as you are smart about it, everyone starts small, but there is a difference between people who stay small being comfortable where they are and there is the other people with the successful mindset of growing and improving themselves everyday, “don’t be a follower, be a student” Jim Rohn said .

Today,  it’s easier than ever to find people with the same interest, I went to a seminar about self improvement coaching just to meet someone who could show me how to inspire other people to chase their dreams. I have been to a couple of RSD free tours to meet one of the best dating coaches. Meetup.com  is a great way to find just any group of people you want to spend time with.
